SWIMMING

in circles.

a concept

by Mac Miller

“Swimming in Circles” is about the struggles Mac Miller faced throughout his life.
Miller died on Sept. 7, 2018 from an overdose of alcohol,
cocaine and fentanyl.
A year later, it was determined by the Los Angeles federal prosecutors that he was given
“counterfeit oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl,
cocaine and Xanax.”
Mac Miller was in a deep depression after his two-year relationship came to an end
which resulted in him getting in a near fatal DUI accident.
Just three weeks before Miller's death he released Swimming.
Swimming is lonesome.
Mac was emotionally and mentally stagnant.
and mentally stagnant.
Circles is an album designed in the same mindset of its sister Swimming.
Circles was left nearly complete when Mac died.
The early versions of the album were worked through Mac and producer Jon Brion,
who took the initiative of finishing the album following Mac’s passing.
Circles was developed to loop back to Swimming.
“My god, it go on and on,”
“Just like a circle, I go back to where I’m from.”
This album is more than a collection of songs,
it is a collaboration of his producer,
his family and his fans,
all committed to honoring his legacy.
It is a piece that brings people
together and grounds them.
It is a final farewell to a great artist and an endless celebration of his life.
